A Bad Year for Tomatoes - May 2007

The Haifa English Theatre presents A BAD YEAR FOR TOMATOES, a juicy romantic comedy written by Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick.

In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize for his 1953 drama Teahouse of the August Moon, John Patrick has written screenplays for such memorable films as Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), Love Is a Many Splendored Thing (1955), and The Shoes of the Fisherman (1968).

Myra Marlowe (Sylvia Lippa) leaves the TV limelight to retire to a small New England town to write her autobiography. Instead of peace and quiet, she finds herself surrounded by zany neighbors Cora (Sallee Eriera-Elboim) and Reba (Betsy Lewis Yizraeli).  Willa Mae (Tally Wolf Nachim) the local witch and Piney (Yossi Lippa) a romantic  woodsman serve up liberal helpings of broad comedy, spiced with farce and slapstick, as sheriff (Ron Sivan) and Myra’s agent Tom (Roy Spongin) arrive on the scene.

This bumper crop of laughs is directed by John Dicks and will be performed at the Beit Hagefen Auditorium, 33 Zionism, Haifa on
