The Haifa English Theatre presents Oscar Wilde’s classic THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People, directed by Murray Rosovsky, opening in January 2012 at the Beit Hagefen Auditorium, 33 Hatzionut, Haifa.
In this farce about mistaken identity, Jack (Rory Cunningham) and his free-loading friend Algernon (Jordan Mandell) pursue the hearts of Gwendolen (Theresa O’Toole Kipp) and Cecily (Mary Okonkwo). The disapproval of Gwendolen’s mother Lady Bracknell (Sylvia Lippa) adds to the drama as the men complicate matters by using imaginary alter egos in their attempt to woo the ladies.
All of this serves to confuse Miss Prism (Bertha Cafrey), but not the Rev. Chasuble (Yossi Lippa) who has courting ideas of his own. In the midst of it all, Merriman (Tony Levy) and Lane (Murray Rosovsky) do their best to keep everything in order.
